Fuel prices climb: Da Nang holds tour prices instead of passing the cost on

On 20 March 2026 the executive board of the Danang Tourism Association held an extraordinary meeting over rising global fuel prices driven by tensions in the Middle East. Air fares and tour costs are climbing just before the 2026 peak season — the point at which a destination's competitiveness is most exposed.

The chosen response is to hold selling prices. Rather than passing the increase to travellers, companies are restructuring the product: shorter stays, tighter operating costs, service quality unchanged.
Association chairman Cao Tri Dung framed it as shared risk: “This is the moment for the tourism industry to show a spirit of sharing, to stand with travellers and with the market.”
On markets, the focus shifts to domestic travellers and nearby Southeast and Northeast Asian sources — the segments least exposed to long-haul flight costs. In early April 2026 the association runs a promotion in Laos, targeting the overland corridor.

Across the service chain, hotels, restaurants and attractions are encouraged to bundle combos at reasonable prices and share margin, instead of each cutting prices alone to win volume.
Alongside holding prices, the association has formed an Events and Cultural Destinations chapter — meeting on 27 March 2026 — to push MICE business and destination branding. The base is 2025's result: more than 17.3 million visitors and revenue of nearly 60,000 billion dong; the 2026 target is close to 20 million.
