My Son lies in Duy Xuyen, about seventy kilometres from Da Nang. UNESCO inscribed it as a World Heritage Site in 1999.
The valley holds more than seventy Champa temples raised between the 4th and 13th centuries for Shiva; around twenty still stand in something close to their original form. How the Cham laid brick with no visible mortar is a question researchers have yet to settle.
The valley has little shade and heats up fast, so an early run makes sense — it is also when the site is emptiest.
